HCG levels rising but not doubling - am very worried

Hi, I am roughly 5 weeks pregnant after trying for 2 years. Last week I experienced severe pain and went to A&E where they tested my HCG level - it came back at 74. Two days later it was 208, then 308, then 429. I have had light spotting on and off for a week now. The hospital won't say anything other than we now have to have the blood test repeated in 5 days and a scan. I am driving myself crazy with worry as the level isn't doubling every 48 hours - has anyone ever experienced this or can give me some answers - I just want to know if my baby stands a chance of survival.

Really the best thing to do would be to speak to your GP or Midwife (as it seems you have done by going to hospital). However, if you'd like to speak to someone - either an antenatal teacher who could give some insight or to someone who may have been through similar experiences - do call the NCT helpline on 0300 330 0700.

Thank you for your reply, sadly I miscarried yesterday. I am just trying to come to terms with it all now

I am so sorry to hear that, I know that is very difficult. It may help to speak to others who have been through the same thing. We do work with the Miscarriage Association and have some fantastic support for parents who have miscarried, and we can put you in touch ...
