Thrush at 37 weeks pregnant. Does that mean my baby has it.

I have been told I have thrush which is the icing on the cake for a difficult pregnancy! The only thing is I am 37 weeks pregnant and I know my baby is head down not far from cervix.

My niece was born with thrush in her mouth and needed treatment start after birth. She cried for three weeks non-stop. The NHS leaflet said I dont need to treat it if I dont have symptoms because it's not harmful to the baby. I have had a few symptoms so I have brought the cream and pessarie today.

I just wanted to know does my baby already have it? Or does the baby only if it goes through the birth canal? I really dont want my baby to go through want my niece did. I am gonna use the pessarie tonight and use the cream as instructed. But I'm worried that the baby might already have it. Has anyone else has thrush at this late stage and treated it? Was baby okay?

Speak to your gp or whoever told you have thrush ?midwife as you need a longer course when pregnant not just one pessary. Baby will still be in its sac so they're shouldn't be an issue, but something worth discussing with whoever told you regarding the thrush result.

I got a letter in the post from the triage midwifes. The problem with being pregnant in covid is that I have no named midwife and no one who is monitoring my care. I feel completely abandoned. I see a different person every time and as I said I get given conflicting information. It's a real mess.

Id ask to speak to your gp then. It's not great of your midwives though as really should be explaining things if you have queries and explaining results to tests they've taken. Pharmacy is unlikely to even sell you a pessary if they notice you're pregnant.

I had thrush twice in the couple of weeks before birth. Since it was very uncomfortable the doctor prescribed a fungal suppositories and cream. It went away then came back and wasn't fully gone by the time of birth. The baby didn't have it. But they still might cry a lot 😜
