Eating for two

Hello! I’m 9 weeks pregnant with my second baby, and am a little concerned about how much I’m eating. I do remember being very hungry early in my first pregnancy and going to town with my eating, but because it was my first and because I was slimmer (about half a stone) and fitter than I am now, it didn’t seem to affect me so much. But this time round, i’ve got quite a big belly already! What I don’t know is whether the big belly is because it’s my second, or because I now feel the urge to eat a vat of coco pops every breakfast (with skimmed milk, I’m not completely off the wagon ;-) ). My diet (coco pops not withstanding) is generally pretty healthy and I’ve been trying to stay as physically active as I can (lots of walking and 1 gym class a week).

I guess I’m after advice from other second time Mums; did you find you started showing much earlier with your second, and if so, roughly when? The thought of cutting back on my eating makes me want to cry as I am so hungry a lot of the time!

All advice/experience welcome! Xx

You sound like me with the coco pops 😂 I’m not a second time mum though. However I have heard bumps come along quicker with second etc pregnancies.

In my first trimester and now in my last I can’t stop eating and would have coco pops for breakfast and in the evening after dinner. I thought that would be slightly better than some other stuff I could eat. I haven’t really put much weight on during my pregnancy x

Ha! Coco pops are so damn tasty!! I could just do a bowl now in fact! Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy! X (ps I carried on eating coco pops by the kilo after my last baby was born too, so make sure you stock up!)

Lol I can’t believe how many boxes of coco pops I’ve been through this pregnancy. I’m also into nesquick and krave as well but coco pops are the best. Hopefully your hunger will die down a bit when you get into the second trimester xx

Hi , I have three daughters and I can actually tell you that your belly shows and grows faster with your second child as it’s already had a baby in there . The doctors told me this and the midwife as I was scared I was a chunky lol but I was only a size 6 before I got pregnant very active then along cake baby number 2 and I had a belly at 8 weeks! I’m not a coco pops fan but I was a chocolate fan had to have a bar or two every day! Xx

That’s reassuring - thank you! Funny thing is, I’m not a massive sweet food fan usually - definitely more of a crisp girl - but both pregnancies have had me all about the chocolate-based goods. I think I need to up my activity levels to make sure I don’t end up the size of a house! Xx

Well I’m a savoury girl too love all crisps and spices , don’t do desserts or chocolate usually but when I was pregnant with my 2nd it was a must it was Cadbury caramel lol at least twice a day ! Your be fine your active anyway I’m sure the craving with die down soon before it sky rockets 🚀 again lol 😂! All the best Hunni xx

I’m 37 weeks with my second and my bump showed so early! I was out of my normal jeans by 10 weeks. I ate like a horse first half of my pregnancy (Mint ice cream was my vice!) but now my stomach space has been taken up by baby feet I couldn’t eat a lot even if I wanted to! 😂 I have only put half a stone on in weight so the second half has definitely outweighed the first. All the best x

I've heard you can show a lot more with baby number 2 due to weakened muscles from the first pregnancy. Wear the bump with pride - it's such a beautiful sight and honour to be carrying your little one right :)
