They're a mink or weasel. A kit's a baby.

I see them every once in a while and they are cute...and fierce.

We call them stoats in the UK but I think they'd be called weasels in US, we have weasels too, smaller and without the black tail tip. An adult stoat would take on a rabbit. In cold winters they turn white, except the black tail tip, that's what makes ermine, the fur that Charles has said he doesn't want people wearing at his coronation. For the sake of the stoats, a sensible decision!
