johnMSAA Very relevant poll! I am curious as to what others in this forum are doing to pass their time away.

I quilt and sew because I love that. However, I read but would love to write. That was a goal of mine for this year and that didn't happen, but there's always next year!

Keep Smiling,

Carole :-D

I'm part of a writing group that gets together every Saturday. They introduced me to something called flash fiction. Basically you're given a prompt...usually a photo or cartoon with no words, but can also be just a starting sentence...then you get 5 to 10 minutes to write whatever story that comes to mind to explain the photo, cartoon, or whatever you were given. Something like that might help you get started writing.

Reading and walking are the best! I believe it helps clear my head of the negative thoughts/feelings I might have when I walk. And I absolutely love my books!!! 👍😊❤🌷

Exercise is a GOOD THING for physical benefit, emotional benefit and the fight against depression benefit.

johnMSAA My primary activity is gardening, but that is different from exercise because it can involve (as it does for me) research, planning, analysis of results, problem solving in addition to planting, harvesting and using what was harvested by dehydrating, canning, jamming, and (of course) consuming. It also seems that pets are a sort of nebulous category, not an activity exactly (though they do need care) and not a social activity (though they do provide stimulation and companionship); since many on the forum live with animals (cats, dogs, horses), perhaps this could also be an interest category. Or perhaps warrant a separate survey!

Thanks for the feedback - yes, maybe a short Poll about pets/animals could be posted in the future.

Gardening and Cats are 2 of my favorite endeavors. Gardening relieves stress (as long as it's not hot and/or humid).

2Kiggy You'll note that much of what I call gardening can be done indoors, in the winter, and also that I failed to say that because I live in a place with hot and humid summers, most of my gardening occurs in the morning before 10, or after 5 when the trees shade where I want to work. Although no cat currently shares a home here (one of my rescued dogs is a cat chaser), I have dearly loved all the cats that deigned to share their lives with mine. There are so many ways to stay active and engaged with the world!

An apartment building I lived in while I was stationed in Italy, my downstairs neighbor had a small dog mutt who chased all the stray cats and a few of the neighbors cats. But the real fun started when one of the neighbors cat named Gerri, he was a huge Tom cat, he would chase that stupid dog!

Peruzzot A funny story! In your memory stash, I imagine this runs like a silent movie and brings a smile to your face. Animal antics certainly do to mine!

I like walking & try to walk as much as I can, with it getting colder I can't get outside & walk very much we don't have room to put a treadmill.

I make Stained Glass projects. Anything from suncatchers to doors and windows. Been doing this for 26 years and plan to continue, MS or not.

That is something I have wanted to learn how to do. Just haven't had a chance to yet. It's on the bucket list along with learning to scuba dive.

I read as much as possible. I enter to win books on Goodreads.com and they have a reading challenge where one predicts how many books they will read in a year. This year, I predicted 70. I'm already over 80 and still have 3 weeks plus left!

I'm gonna have to check that site out. I keep a log of all the books I read for annual evaluations. I might have 20-25 books at most. Nowhere near where you are at.

I commute for two hours each day and read during my lunch hour. I highly recommend Goodreads.com because you actually DO win books for free. Happy Reading!

They left out “nothing/ no hobbies” so I can’t vote.

Just ran across this. I am learning ceramics, both hand built and wheel thrown. A challenge because I have to do on porch on good days.( pretty messy, but love feel of clay in hands) Very spiritual and relaxing. My imagination out does my skills. Of course no room to keep what I make so challenge is to give away.

I also planted 4-5 flower beds at condo project and have gotten some encouragemen from other residents. Challenge to keep weeded and mulched. Maintenance crews do not do flower beds.
