Hi Julie,

You need to get this checked out by a doctor. You may have a condition such as eczema.

British Association of Dermatologists: Eczema bad.org.uk/site/796/default...

General self-help:

1. Bathing - bath or shower using lukewarm water. Replace standard soap with a substitute such as a mild detergent soap-free cleanser (ask your pharmacist).

2. Clothing - wear soft smooth cool clothes; wool is best avoided.

3. Irritants - protect your skin from dust, water, solvents, detergents, injury.

4. Emollients - apply an emollient (e.g. E45 bath oil & emollient cream) liberally and often, particularly after bathing, and when itchy. Also, avoid perfumed products.

5. Hydrocortisone steroid cream (can be bought over the counter in the UK - ask your pharmacist) - apply once or twice daily.

6. Antihistamine tablets (ask your pharmacist) - may help reduce the itching. Some can cause drowsiness so are best avoided during the day. Antihistamines that cause drowsiness can help you sleep at night.

Hi Julie try your GP, but go armed with info from Shell567 as your GP will be able to prescribe some or all of the products mentioned. Up here in Scotland I have a number of emollient products on repeat prescription and all are free. I am due to see my GP on Wednesday for a 'skin care review' and I will take along the various corticosteroids that I have as well!
