I have chronic migraines before this they were called "transformed" migraines which means they can be a day long or 6 weeks long. I dont think you can really apply the word "normal" to migraine length. Some people obviously do have the classic 48/72 hour migraines but there are just as many people who don't, especially on this forum! Its taken a very long time for GP's to take this onboard but neurologist's are well aware of it.

Hi there, My migraines always last 4 days but with varying degrees of intensity, so sometimes the pain is more prevalent and other times the nausea/vomiting is uppermost. My specialist didn't seem at all surprised to hear of the length of these attacks and seemed to consider this fairly normal. So don't worry! I find that for me, it helps if I can tell myself during the acutely painful periods that this pain always passes and that I'll come out of it. Otherwise, I tend to panic and that always makes things a lot worse. For me, even the last day or two where the pain is less disturbing, I am still not feeling right (e.g. unusually tired and feeling odd). I wish that the migraine episodes were shorter, because then it would be less daunting at the beginning of the attack psychologically. However, the main thing is that they end sooner or later. Hope that this helps and take care. x

hi

my migraine would take a couple of agonising and debalitating days to get control of the pain and then i would have to take pain killers for several days after that until it eventually went away, it would leave me drained for days afterwards too

Agree with all others - I tend to get 'flurries' but with no obvious pattern - sometimes just a day, at other times I wonder whether I'll ever be migraine free (looking at my migraine diary, in Oct, I had an 8 day migraine, 2 days clear, 3 day migraine, 3 days clear, then migraine, clear, migraine). It was a dreadful migraine month, but they were fewer and more spaced out in November!

Good luck :)
