Aimvoiv side effects
I just had Aimvoiv shot, I am very ti... - National Migraine...
I just had Aimvoiv shot, I am very tired and migraines worse. What are other people experiencing?
I'm assuming you had one 70 mg 'shot', so I think you have to give it a chance for a few months to see if it is working. Your doctor may increase the dose if it is not working. Aimovig was approved very recently by FDA. European Medicines Agency's (EMA) still has not - so there is not a great deal of users you would find yet to share their experience. However, Novartis did publish their study, you can read it here if you want:

Thank you so much for your reply and for the information.
Just a correction - it seems The European Commission has approved Aimovig in August, 2018. So, we shall see some feedback from EU patients soon.
That should prove helpful! Thank you!
I have been on a different CGRP drug for the last three months and had very good results. The one that I am on has been approved today - it is called Ajovy and manufactured by Teva. I had long-term chronic migraine (18-22 days a month) and haven't had a migraine since I started taking this drug. I have often wondered if it makes me tired because I do feel absolutely washed out sometimes but there is no way of knowing if it is actually being caused by the drug.
Monster, how is the drug Ajovy different from the new drug Aimvoig?
It’s exactly the same type of drug - a CGRP inhibitor. Ajovy is also new - part of this new rush by drug companies. They all work in much the same way - just at different points of the pain pathway. I believe there a few others being developed apart from Aimovig and Ajovy. The results I’ve had have been really remarkable although I can tell when I would have had a migraine - I still get the classic stiff neck and attendant neuralgia, for instance, and I wonder if the fatigue is just part of this suppressed migraine pattern.
I just received my first shipment of Aimovig and did some extensive research on the ingredients before doing the shot and learnt that there is human immunoglobulin in the ingredients. So my decision is to decline that free trial. If you want more information for yourselves just Google; is human immunoglobulin in Aimovig?
What does that mean exactly?
Since there is no reply (yet), I am trying to simplify - Immunoglobulins are basically antibodies, so human Immunoglobulins are prepared from human blood, more accurately plasma (the part where blood proteins are contained). But don't worry, the plasma then chemically treated to remove any blood proteins or blood-borne pathogens (Immuneglobulins are also isolated in this process). During the manufacturing process, viral inactivation and removal steps are taken as a precaution to eliminate pathogens such as the HIV or hepatitis virus etc.
If there is a defect in manufacturing process, then yes, in theory, there is a possibility of contamination - but these manufacturing process is strictly monitored to ensure patient safety. So, I would not worry about these and will happily accept Aimovig if it helps migraine. But it is of course individual's choice in the end.
As a side note, Immuneglobulins are metabolized and eliminated by your body after 3 to 4 weeks, hence you need to top up Aimovig every 4 weeks.
