Link to my recent descriptive piece on my blog, about my experience with migraines and the aura.
I liked your comments about not knowing when it will strike, and the jolt you feel when you notice changes in the excel spreadsheets. I get a similar feeling when my hand doesn't quite appear to belong to me, and when I see splodges of blue light. My blue lights are the same shade of blue that you get on emergency services vehicles - so actually seeing one dash past on a 999 call is a relief to me.
And how can a brain "make up" smells and emotions and sounds?
Sometimes I think the aura is weirder and more frightening than the headache.
Really well written blog! You totally nailed that odd feeling. Sometimes I will feel usually tired before I get an aura or a slightly spaced out feeling but they just tend to happen out of the blue.
I got into a panic recently after finishing a 10K. I had that ominous blind spot in my vision. I warned my friend what I thought was happening.... Then took my glasses off, gave them a wipe and... Oh was I embarrassed?! It's now a bit of a joke. Is it an aura or dirt on your glasses?
Thanks! That situation with the glasses is too funny - yet I totally understand how that panic can arise out of nowhere!
Oh my, I just read your piece and that is exactly how I feel when my vision starts to go. I may suddenly notice a letter in a word is no longer there, I move my eyes away from the page, then back again, and the word is whole but I know its the start.... You wrote that so descriptively and clearly, every feeling you had, I have had too. Thank you for writing and sharing, it has helped to know I am not alone in my feelings of dread when that 'aura' is about to strike. Teadrinker, the aura is definitely the worst out of the two.
Thanks for your comment! I'm glad to find some connection with people who have experienced the same feelings as me with the dreaded aura!
