I have silent migraine (no headache) ... - National Migraine...
I have silent migraine (no headache) wondered if anyone can recommend a treatment. I get visual changes, dizziness, clumsiness, feel weird
Sorry to hear about this - have a friend whose family suffer from silent migraines - her sister - an artist suffers and it just makes it impossible for her to work when it happens - I think all she has is trying to sleep it off. She finds that caffeine makes it worse so it might be worth seeing if steering clear of coffee and tea and soft drinks containing caffeine helps at all, if you aren't doing this already.
Is this something that has started recently ... might be worth looking at other possibilities - eg B12 deficiency if you have other symptoms as well: pernicious-anaemia-society....
Have you spoken to your GP about it?
It's no different from classic migraine as far as treatments go: you need to see a consultant who specialises in migraine. Avoid obvious triggers: caffeine, alcohol, cheese, chocolate and taking too many painkillers.
Thank you for replying. I have had this on and off for 3 years. The neurologist diagnosed this back in Nov. It feels like I m in a daze and is very disabling really but as there is no headache its difficult to give meds hence my question about treatment. Anyone else had this?
Hi villers, I too get visual migraine, very rarely get the full blown headache, and never vomiting. I have been getting them for most of my adult life but do sometimes get a good few months inbetween! Had one yesterday had to come home from work for a bit till it passed but am always left feeling clumsy and numb around my face, I get confused to and sometimes can't get my words out afterwards unfortunately I havnt found any treatments that work apart from putting my sun glasses on and getting under the covers I have found bananas to be beneficial though im still not sure if that is just coincidence! Do yours come in clusters? I usually find if I have one then I will definately get another few in the same week!
Hope you find some answers xxx
Hi again thanks for your reply, I am sort of new to migraine I suppose compared to others but I do get cluster migraine definitely that's what the neuro diagnosed. I go to a chiro who helps out a lot but not the long term answer. I get back to back ones that lasts days - not nice
I get these -- they are my " inbetweenies" migraine, these I can manage, providing I do not have to go any wahere or be sensible, it is a horrible feeling and I did try driving once with one --NEVER again!!! if I need to be sensible or the unwell feeling gets too much I take an imigran. The taking of paracetomol and brufen mix which sometimes works for the headache does not remove the other migraine symptoms which you describe so well
I get these too, along with migraine with aura and the headaches. They are a nuisence. I think I've been having them for years and years without realising it. It was a relief to have it diagnosed.
I don't find that things like triptans help (they only help if I get a headache), and I also have botox, again good for the headaches but it doesn't prevent the silent migraines. I am taking atenolol - still not sure if a recent change in dose has made a difference. I don't feel right today, there could be a number of reasons for this, but I suspect it's migraine.
It's a rubbish thing to deal with sometimes, but good to know there are other people out there who understand what it feels like to be wading through treacle.
Hi all
I am so pleased to have found this site and people who understand after years of feeling isolated with silent migraine. I too find driving impossible when I have a migraine as everything is so floaty and strange and treacle like as you say and it makes reaction times hopeless. Can be frightening. Thanks everyone though, today seems to be a migraine free day yeh!.
