Hello, I have to get an MRI with and without contrast due to a rocking sensation as well as clogged ears etc. On my order form it says “brain with attention to the IAC with and without contrast”. I have had an MRI before however I did not need contrast. Now all of my nerves have sky rocketed because of this one factor. Why is the contrast necessary and will it physically affect me? I am highly sensitive to medications and anything I put in my body and I am worried it will make me feel bad.

MRI with and without Contrast

I had one with contrast. It just shows things up better. No affects. It just took longer. Didn’t show anything. Just migraine diagnosis. As I am sure yours will be. Migraine causes so many varied and awful symptoms. Wishing they could invent a scan to be able to see it. Keep calm.
I've had several MRI's and a set with and without contrast of my brain. I have no problems with the contrast. It helps to see things better, any abnormalities that may be there. I am sensitive to a lot of things but the contrast was no issue at all. It does just take longer because they have to run the entire set without contrast, then inject the contrast, then have the entire other set run.
