Our son is Autistic and unable to work . He has just been assessed for capability to work and has been placed in LCW . This means that he can not claim any further U. Credit .
He is planning to move to independent living and this decision will have an impact on his ability to support himself .
How is independent living funded ?
How is he supposed to support himself whilst not at work ?
Any help would be welcome .
Thank you

Hi unfortunately I don’t have the answers but try the mencap helpline the carers association and adult social services. All of these should be able to advise. I use an advocate but I do have to pay her but she’s been worth her weight in gold if you would like her details let me know she’s totally independent and she’s worked as a social worker for ma y years and knows all the laws and what your entitled to so she can help fight your corner.
Hi there, I don’t have any direct knowledge on this, so beyond the advice from other comments, I would recommend reaching out to Mencap’s Learning Disability Helpline at 0808 808 1111 or email helpline@mencap.org.uk as they will be able to give you some guidance on the paths you can go down. Wishing you and your son the best of luck
Hi , you could ask DWP to reconsider the decision as your son is unable to work and should be considered for LCWRA.If this is unsuccessful you can appeal the decision within a certain amount of time . Hope it all goes well for you and your son.
