Hi there. Depending on your granddaughters level of capacity you will need to apply for deputyship if she has limited capacity to make decisions about finance or where she lives. I have it for my son who is 24 and no decisions can be made about his care or accommodation or health without my agreement. Without it I have no rights. Research it on the website if the office of the public guardian. Www.opg.org.Uk
Hi I know nothing about guardianship but what I applied for for my son was a deputyship as he lacks mental capacity and has severe Learning disabilities. You can go on the gov.U.K. Website and apply on there you need the finance one first as far as I’m aware and then the health and well-being one as well. It’s imperative to have this as you never know when you might need it as everything changes ones their 18
Hi Eeviee yes agree with replies, you def need to apply for deputyship, best if you share the role with another trusted person if you can. Apply for finance and property and health and welfare. You can do it yourself but I recommend using a solicitor as its a long process and a lot of legal paperwork, some of which is tricky to understand. The office of the public guardian (OPG) are very nice to deal with and I always feel I have the power of the law at my back. If you go on line on the OPG site there is information explaining how to become a deputy and what is expected of you. I actually look forward to sending in my annual report.
Hi,
Are you in Scotland? We don't have Deputyship in Scotland, we have Guardianship. The Guardianship certificate will show the length of time granted for, e.g. 3 years, 5 years, 10 years, etc.
