Accommodation for young adults with learning difficulties.

My daughter is 20 and has Downs syndrome .

She has a group of close friends she would like to live with.

Is it possible to find our own accommodation with a private landlord and then find funding for the support they would need?

Can she have a say with whom she wants to live with and where she wants to live?

It's a minefield and any advice would be greatly appreciated.

This sounds like a fantastic idea

We have some information about housing on Mencap's website here- mencap.org.uk/advice-and-su...

A few other ideas:

> contact your adult social services team (at your local council) to see if they can help.

> our helpline will be able to talk to you more about your plans. Get in touch on 0808 808 1111 or you can email helpline@mencap.org.uk

> this page on the Downs Syndrome Association website might be helpful - downs-syndrome.org.uk/for-f...

I hope this helps a little.

Cheers
