Not sure if my son can go back to the day centre when shielding
Hi, my son has DS and has been to told shield, hi... - Mencap
Hi, my son has DS and has been to told shield, his support bubble is the day centre not sure if he should go back next week,
He has to “ shield” at home. Away from potentially infected people. As since March the statistics for DS surviving covid are grim. gov.uk/government/publicati...
Thanks for reply, it was just so upsetting telling him as he doesn't fully understand and I dont think we will be able to take part in the zoom calls because again he'll be upset when he sees his friends at mencap and he cant go
Yes it’s cruel, but to be kind it’s unfortunately got to be done. My sons in supported living and he’s in the same boat, only we are now not allowed to see him.
But I would definitely try the zoom, at the end of the day he will still have contact with his friends, which is better than non at all.
He will adapt to it, my son enjoyed seeing his friends albeit fleetingly, but you’ve got to pick up the pieces sadly.
At the end of the day we don’t know how long it’s going to go on for. Good luck. X
Obviously I don’t know your full circumstances but I thought I’d share this with you. As you may be getting Direct Payments to pay for any extra support or day service’s? If you don’t receive them and your LA pays for day services, then ask for the money to pay for other things to help your son with his health & well being. Here’s a link that may help you.
Hello Lesleyandchris
Last night's new announcement might have changed your plans on this anyway. There is a lot of new guidance on the government website here (if you live in England) - gov.uk/guidance/national-lo...
I will also post any new accessible Easy Read guides on here too.
Please let us know how you and your son are getting on.
Best wishes
Sarah
