LETS GIVE IT A TRY

I'm new to this. I find IT a little intimidating. However, nothing ventured......

My 60 year old beautiful daughter has a congenital SLD, challenging behaviour, a whole raft of health problems, the main concern is schematic heart failure after a heart attack 7 years ago.

My husband of 62 years has developed Alzheimers/Vascular Dementia and is deteriorating rapidly.

I am terrified of the future for my two loved ones should I not be able to continue to care for them in view the many horror stories of residential care atrocities.

On the bright side. I am fit, healthy, positive, stroppy and determined that we are going to live each day to the limit of our capabilities. Enjoying what we are able to, overcoming any problems, as long as we are together.

Having Wills, trusts and lasting power of attorney papers updated will give some reassurance I’m just trying to sort these out with Tibbets and Moore Solicitors who are doing a reduced rate at present All the best

All in place through Stowe Family Law, in Harrogate. I have changed ownership of home to protect our daughter's financial future, there is a letter attached to my will stating my wishes for her Guardianship( being an adult it is different from that of a child and is merely a request). POA for my husband is in force. I am not in a good place right now, but is very necessary. I am fortunate to have friends and contacts in the care sector who (thank God) know their way around the system, 'cos its a mine field. All good wishes to you and yours.

Hello forgetmeknot

Don't despair there's lots of help out there, so don't be afraid to ask. Not all care homes are bad, we have some great ones in our area with lovely caring staff, so my tip would be to have a good look around when the time is right, and you'll instinctively know the one that's right for the person you love.

Look after yourself too - it's all to easy to forget yourself when you're caring for others.

All the best!

Thank you so much for your thoughts. I have been a carer for my beautiful daughter for 60 years. During this time I am lucky to have met and know some fantastic people who are involved in the care industry, who will advise and help when the time comes to make this decision. Its the cold blooded financial and legal decisions which have to be made which have been heart breaking.
