Can doctors predict accurately how quickly someone will decline from dementia?

Or is that really difficult to determine?

Hi ageing with grace. It is very difficult to answer, as there are a lot of factors that are considered - the age of the person, when the diagnosis was made, the support that the person has around them, if they are receiving the support of a memory clinic and are on any medication etc (even this can sometimes vary between the NHS Trust and Doctors involved), and the type of dementia that someone is diagnosed with. I would highly recommend the Alzheimers Society for further information and support - they also have a lot of factsheets that you can download or details of a local group. Hope this helps.
