I had not smoked in 25 years! I quit cold turkey on 12/18/1992. The news was stunning. I have great faith and am now remission. cas

Hi AtoyotA, maybe nothing to do with smoking. Keep the faith!

I was at diagnosed, May of 2016, a month after I turned 75, with stage 3b lung cancer. I spent the summer getting treatment and at this point in time, I have no evidence of disease.

Hi good for you I may have 3b also but have severe emphysema, cannot get lung lobe removed. Probably only Chemo. Any recommendations?I live in PA

Hi Marbleem, I, also could not get surgery to have the lobe removed due to lymph node were involved. I had 33 radiation treatments 5 days a week and 8 chemo once a week within that amount of time. I was able to handle it without any setbacks. It might be different with you having emphysema. A positive attitude, a good support system, and faith in God helped tremendously up to now. I wish the best for you, fight like hell and never give up.

Thank You for responding and so happy for your outcome! I was just diagnosed at age 62. I have been smoking for about 35 years. I received my biopsy results. I have squamous (non-small cell) Stage 3A. The thoracic surgeon didn't get enough tissue for the biopsy to check for DNA genetic mutations. I have used 2.5 liters of oxygen at bedtime. My daily oxygen is usually 96. They put me on a ventilator and did a Electromagnetic Navigation Bronchoscope to obtain the biopsies. I have an appointment with a local oncologist who has 22 years experience. Do you have any advice for me. I can't quit smoking, I can't get wellbutrin or chantix prescribed. The more stressed I get the worse I get with smoking. Not sure what type of cancer you had. I have one lymph node cancerous that is deep in my chest towards my sternum. My research I have done tells me to get a 2nd opinion with an oncologist. Were you a former smoker? I live in PA and pretty much need to stay in this state for medical appointments. I went to UPMC Passavant in Pittsburgh for that surgery, just wish they would have gotten more tissue for that additional testing. I don't have a support system, I do have a great boyfriend, he is hard of hearing and doesn't say much or give any type of encouragement, he is more the silent type. Prayers to you. What type of cancer did you have and did they do that additional testing to see what type of chemo it would respond to. Thank you so much!

Hi Marbleem , You certainly have a full plate. I had squamous cell also. Had small tumor removed in 2013. ( by wedge resection) No chemo. Its a rough road we travel! Every ache or pain i get, i think it's back. We are somewhat neighbors. I am in New Jersey. Mom in pa. Ruby 🌷

Thanks and best of continued luck to you! They ruled me out for surgery it seems but mentioned that after chemo possibly. Sure has me confused. May I ask what stage were you at when diagnosed? I am 3A and did they do molecular testing? Well I guess they would not have had to since no chemo. No radiation either. My tumor sits right by or around my aorta and brachial vessel upper left lobe. Had you been a smoker? I have one lymph note cancerous also. Thanks!

Thanks! Wow, that was a whopper tumor. Mine was 3x8 x 3.5 a month ago. I am in Bradford, PA which is about 80 S of Buffalo NY. Right near the NYS line. How are you from the car accident? My former husband and I used to travel to Atlantic City occasionally and my 2 grown children used to race BMX nationally, we travelled to NJ for that as well. Hope you don't have to many aches & pains, prayers.

Oh my, I really feel for you. Yes, I was a smoker, but quit 30 years ago. The best advice I can give is do everything in your power and Doctors' help to quit smoking. My cancer was non small cell with mutation EFGR (not sure of the letters). Actually, at first, I had a team of six doctors and I decided to put complete faith in them, and glad I did. I did not do any research till after it was all over and try to stay away from that as it has a tendency to bring me down some. I am terrible with medical terms anyway and can't even tell you the names of the medications used in my chemo treatments. I guess I'm not much help. What I will do is ask my face book (100 strong) support group to keep you in their thoughts and prayers. They are doing wonders for me, I can tell you that. Good luck to you!

Thanks so much! Keep strong!!! What type was your cancer, mine is squamous. You were lucky to have that team of doctors. I am from a small city. I did go it Pittsburgh PA for my ENB (broncoscope).

Small cell lung at 50 now 57

I was told had lung cancer when 40 but was granulomas then when 45 was told i had lung tumour growing on granulomas tissue upper right lung.

But i was lucky as vanished WELL so i was told

You do hope doctors was not lieing when said it had gone.

My father was 70 when he was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. It had metastasized it was found too late. they gave him a little radiation so he wouldn't bleed. They gave him six months and he lived six months. They didn't have the treatments they have now. Mom died in 2005 of of congestive heart failure she was 83. Dad died in 1992. I wished there was a chemo that could have kept him alive longer. It would have been great for the both of them, and us kids. it was hard but we made it,he lived he lived another 6 months. Jo Taylor

Was just curious. Smokers usually have damage from smoking like my severe emphysema and that prevents surgery and could deter certain types of treatment. Best of luck to you!

Hi! I just wanted to make a suggestion. It would be great if the people with NSLC would state why type they have. For instance I have Squamous Non Small Cell Lung Cancer. I believe that there are 4 types of the NSCLC. I try to read and follow many posts but most of the time I am searching and hunting and trying to find out who has what type so I can relate to what I have. It's to bad there wasn't a way to put each person in a category. Perhaps I am not following the stories properly. I do appreciate this site and your work you do. Thanks!
