How do the winter months affect your a... - Living with Anxiety
How do the winter months affect your anxiety and do you have any coping techniques to help the community?
I actually like Winter (as long as not too cold!). Think the darker days wrap around and protect one. I know not the normal opinion!!!
Thanks for sharing!!
I love winter, too. Fireside suppers, bundling up, candles, snow, quiet times doing needlework with my cat in my lap, long discussions with my husband of 60 years. (We started talking when we first met, and haven't stopped!) These special things make coping so much easier!
I have SAD, and during the dark days, I up my Vitamin D intake, from 10,000 IU, to 15,000 IU. Several issues make it difficult to get enough D at any time - susceptibility to skin cancer, and fear of exposure when outside (kidnapping). Hints to better cope would be most welcome.
For me, I get calm when I get to run and be outside! Sometimes its waaay too cold in the winter to be outside so being stuck inside is hard for me to cope sometimes.
Anxiety has never been seasonal for me. Now that I'm 78, staying indoors when it's cold can be cozy. My hubby feels the same. He's great company <3

I tend to watch a lot of travel programmes which make me feel warm inside,
Invoking memories of warm night s in tropical destinations, and minus the mosquitos.
I dread the start of the winter months every year. The onset of the dark days/nights in my mind prior to the first few weeks really impact on my daily life.
The only comfort I have with the situation is that I can now spend the winter months hiding from the world in bed, without the usual judgemental comments.
Having SAD, with symptoms of severe anxiety in a way feel less pressurized.
This though is overlooked, because imy levels of my depression increase ten fold!
It never rains....... It pours!!! ... and by the look of it, its gonna be a long one!
Good luck out there x My thoughts are with you all.
Eat well, stay warm, and sleep lots. You deserve it. X
