Hi Laura, i'm 33 years old and have suffered with HS since I was 9 yrs old (yes, 24 years) In answer to your question, there is no cure whatsoever for HS because everybody has different triggers, mine for instance are heat and stress, diet did absolutely nothing for me except made me lose weight lol

It may work for you though, try cutting out one thing at a time, if you find it doesn't help, try something else...

There are a few support groups on Facebook for people like us, of which i'm a member, they are an immense help to the psychological side of this disease and also an amazing wealth of information for someone who is always trying to find new things to try and ease their symptoms and suffering.

Hi Laura, I've had HS for 25 years. And YES, changing your diet certainly DOES help HS. I'm living proof & so are thousands of others who are at various stages of healing through dietary changes.

It's true, we all seem to have a few varying triggers, but we also all seem to have some very common triggers. Doing an AIP Elimination diet, (Autoimmune Protocol if the Paleo diet), healing your leaking gut, & then food re-intros can tell you your specific food triggers. You have to eliminate all the noise to hear your bodies voice & what it's telling you about the foods you're consuming. If you're eating 10 things that cause you to flare, you won't know what it is - but, if your only eating one or two foods that cause flares in YOU, by process, you can figure it out.

It's a process for sure, not easy, & other issues can be at play too such as candida overgrowth, mycoplasma, SIBO, etc.

For a LOT more information & support please join us in the closed FB group: The HS Diet Connection.

Most common foods that flare HS seem to be yeast, nightshades (peppers, tomatoes, eggplant, potatoes- there are more), grains, & dairy.

Some members can have grains on a limited basis or goats milk cheese, etc.

We have a link to a recent OBGYN study that explains how dairy contributes to HS, by opening androgen receptors via IGF (insulin growth factor). As a type 2 diabetic, I know first hand how dairy can effect blood sugar control. I'm now in the pre-diabetes category since giving it up.

I realize stress & hormones can play a HUGE role in HS. BUT- the GOOD NEWS is... That dietary changes ( eating good nutritiously dense food) helps regulate hormones, which in turn helps the body cope with stress.

I don't understand why everyone keeps saying triggers if it's a way of dealing with it your way and all the other people not just you who talk about triggers there is no scientific evidence that weight contributes to hs the facts are startling but they know very little about the causes even people without weight issues when they start to form tracts were in my case grew and spread like a canal way into three in one I have had to drain and cleanse this wound for 19 mths without treatment because the nhs is in crisis open to infection for 19 mths
