I can tell you that with retirement 15 years away I need a great deal of help and advice as to how, or even if, I can catch up to my peers. I'm going to have to do something and languishing on the dole just isn't appealing to me. I live in the USA and our highly flawed foray into Universal Coverage has found me in much better physical and emotional health, however, financially I am still in ruins. The general attitude concerning AIDS/HIV has as well improved, but as a matter of practicality very few employers are OK with hiring a 52 year old man who's medication costs $2300/ month. I wish I had more time right now because there is so much to explain and communicate. I realize you most likely aren't going to be my Gallant Knight and that you don't have the answers, yet, but just to have someone out there asking the right questions is at the very least reassuring.Thank you.
I am on the board of a local HIV charity...and am doing my utmost to get trustees, volunteers and staff..to understand that the landscape of HIV has changed dramatically...and the charity needs to adapt and involve its service users in all aspects of designing, running and monitoring services. It's not easygoing!
I agree with Trotski - we need some sort of collaboration to help with issues like housing and pensions as we get older, maybe if we could pool somehow - the current organisation here THT in the UK don't help enough really when you need it, it's all very peace meal and fending for yourself... I don't need help right now but there were times...
I do worry about the long term future even though I'm stable it feels like I've lost a chunk of my life (6 years) - I'd have been 2 bands higher at work for example...
