Struggling with breathlessness for abut 10 months - this came on literally overnight. 3 months later a Mitral Valve "flailing leaflet" was diagnosed. Since then I have has a whole succession of tests and screenings. Any other condition or problem has now been eliminated and I am a single issue patient!
I am meeting the surgeon next week to discuss treatment options (he specialises in minimally invasive repair so that might be an indicator!).

In the same boat need mitral valve repair but I'm 43 so don't have many symptoms at the moment other than tiredness fast beating heart. Due surgery which I hope will be minimal invasive in March. Looking forward to getting it done. I try and be mindful of breathing each day I find sometimes I can hold my breath when stressed seems to slow my heart down. Simple trick but feels very effective.
Good luck! My husband has just had open heart mitral valve repair this week. He was referred to virtually every department in the hospital before the lung man put a stethoscope to his chest and sent him straight to cardiac. I hope you have a shorter wait than us - 11 months from having the TOE that confirmed severe regurgitation.
Thanks Paul7777 and Amberharmony - subject always to clinical need in others I'm due to be operated on before Christmas. The hospital is part of a trial so I'm just waiting to hear if I am "randomised" to either open heart surgery or minimally invasive by catheter - should know in the next week or so. Either way I feel I'm in good hands.
Hi, I had my minimal evasive repair a year ago yesterday. Good luck with the surgeon meeting its another step in the right direction. Being breathless was one of the harder things to deal with, i had to try to limit my excertion before getting to the point of where the breathlessness started.
Once you have the op that should go fairly quickly.
