It could be that the tube or the dome (if you have the behind the ear type) are clogged. Do you have the red plastic rods to clear them? I regularly had this issue with my old NHS ones but my new private ones work much better.

Hi Whit it is almost certainly a wax problem. Either wax is clogging your hearing canal or it is at the point of where your hearing aids fit in the ear. I have behind the ear type aids and I have to clean the domes regularly or replace them about every couple of months. In addition my aids have wax filters that fit at the end of the tube and receiver and I replace them every month. I hope this helps.

Do you have the speaker in the main body behind the ear or in the dome which goes inside the ear?

It's behind the ear.

Then are you sure the tube which carries the sound to the ear isn't getting blocked? I have a little rod I use to poke down, and it was reguarly getting a bit blocked. Whenever it did, the sound varied considerably, often "dimming out" for several minutes.

Sorry i got it wrong, the speaker is in the dome in the ear, i changed the filter again and that seems to have done the trick , the last one was maybe faulty ,or i hadn't fit it correctly, thanks for your input.
