What shoes do you wear when out walking/hiking. This is a single choice poll so say what other is.

I wear my trainers most of the time, but I also wear running shoes sometimes, as that means I can alternate my walk to include a jog or a run, depending on my energy levels and enthusiasm at the time! So, for me 'other' refers to running shoes.

I voted trainers, hiking boots, and other - other being walking sandals. I use different footwear for different terrains and weather and also have to have footwear which will accommodate an orthotic for my right foot (small leg length difference). I love my sandals ( Keen Arroyo - they have stopped manufacturing this design so I have bought two spare pairs!) and wear them all summer for walking, they have closed in toes for protection and the soles are as grippy as my hiking boots but I can wear them without socks.

What a very good poll and so fitting as walking and hiking is something I love.
I've chosen trainers, that's when it's very dry and I'm walking on easy footpaths, specialist walking trainers for when the ground is a little rough but dry and walking boots for when it's wet or dry and when the terrain is rocky i.e. walking up mountains in the Lake District😉
I have real trouble finding shoes to fit, as I am a size 2, sometimes a three and I need an EE fitting, shoes today are just too narrow. I Did have some walking boots but they were so uncomfortable that I couldn't wear them : >
That must be very difficult, I have an EE fitting too and struggle to find them in a size 4 or 5 so I can imagine how difficult it is for you. I have done a lot of research and trial-and-error to find suitable footwear! Have you tried somewhere like Cotswold Outdoor or Snow and Rock? I get a lot of my footwear from there (and Clarke’s wide fit range for work shoes). Their children’s range aren’t all obviously kids shoes and they might carry some wider options. My trainers are Saucony hurricanes (come up wide) or Adidas Ultraboost which are very comfortable and cushiony and have a knitted stretchy top accommodating wider feet but they aren’t particularly supportive so best for path walking. I tend to wear them as everyday shoes. Just looked them up and the Hurricanes start at size 3 and the Ultraboost start at size 3.5 but reviews advise to go for at least half a size bigger than your usual size so either of these might be worth you trying on if you pass a sports and running shop. They’re not likely to be in any of the “fashion” sports shops.
Thank you for all the information. I had almost given up, throwing money at these boots/shoes that promised to be comfortable and infact are nothing of the sort. I had resorted to using Hotters but I may as well be wearing cardboard, overpriced and uncomfortable - I will give these a look, thank you so much
Wellies are good for short walks like taking the dog out!
