I started to experience electrical vibration type surges when l try to fall asleep. Theses started after a massive surge that happened in the middle of the night that woke me - travelled up to my head and my ears started ringing. It was a massive SURgE. I have asked many doctors what it is? The next 2 weeks my eyes would not work properly. Ie no computer or phone. I have not recovered fully. I now get them but small at night. They come and go. I am afraid of them as my ears have rung since. They seem to come from the body but what is always noticeable is the arm- vibrate and hands sort is stretch out as the electricity passes? Is there any explanation for this.

Yes I experience these every night, lying down seems to trigger them. Very frightened at first, especially the stronger ones.

The explanation that makes most sense to me is parasthesia. If you have a look, these symptoms fit. Nerve damage and neuropathic pain etc... Seem to include these sensations. The fact that these symptoms are more prevalent when we are nodding off or going into sleep, appears to be when our bodies are relaxing, muscles, nerves etc... The jolts or shock sensations are almost like the release of a coiled spring. What I do seem to read is that they may be dreadful and very unnerving but I can't say that I have read that it's dangerous. So complex, always trying to make sense of what is happening without a lot of information. We are not alone for sure.
