Concussion symptoms for 3 years

Hi everyone!

So roughly 3 years ago I was playing college soccer and I got elbowed in the head. I knew I had a concussion, because I had two before that. But this time I decided to keep playing because I wanted to help my team. About three months went by and I was hit In the head again but this time A LOT harder. I was knocked out and I woke up on the side lines with a trainer over me. I was sent to the ER and was diagnosed with a concussion. However, I did not tell the doctor that I had been playing through a concussion. I really wish I told him but all that was on my mind was getting back on the soccer field. In my mind I was thinking if I told him the truth I would probably never play soccer again.

The next few months were horrible. I was throwing up after trying to do simple tasks like going class. I was dizzy pretty much all time, couldn't sleep, my short term memory was god awful, super irritable etc...

Now about 3 years have passed and I still don't feel normal. I no longer throw up, but I do still have a lot of the same symptoms. I get dizzy when I try to do work, I still have trouble sleeping, and I am very impatient. I'm starting to give up hope that I will ever get better and I really don't know what to do. I can't even remember what it feels like to be normal and thats all I want. I just want to one day be able to feel like a normal person and not like I'm living with half a brain. If anyone has any advice please please please let me know.

Thank you!!

Google: Chronic traumatic encephalopathy should be useful to you, Cindy

I think you know now that any head injury however trivial you think it is should never be ignored. Unfortunately brain traumas take a long time to improve and sometimes they never do.

Resting and watching and waiting are the best strategies to take as no sticking plasters can help. It is up to your body to do the work you just have to give it the right environment. Your diet must be good you can get cookery books for brain health and no more contact sports in the short term xxx

At the risk of being blunt, your mindset is crucial, health and life can be dealt with by your mind. Put simply you need to become positive. I encountered a heavy TBI, two week coma & half my skull is now titanium. That is of no relevance though. I recommend that you buy and read “The Secret” by Rhonda Byrne. Good luck with the reconstruction of your mindset.

After reading your story I felt so sad as you sound so down. I just wanted to say to you please return to your doctor and tell him/her about your symptoms and ask for further investigation about your head injury. Write a daily diary, Also write a list of all your symptoms and also how you are feeling. Maybe if you have a close friend you could ask them what changes they have seen in you since your accident and then you have something to take to your doctor.

Take Care Liz
