Dr would have to assess you to be suffering from an acute mental illness that requires you to be admitted to hospital. You cannot admit yourself. A lot of psychiatric care/support is community based these days.

I am sorry to hear of the situation at home is not good. Do you mean you are being assessed by the crisis team for mental health? I am not sure how far you are in the process, but they do support people in the community by appointments, how frequent is assessed too. in the county I live in you can request voluntary admission, but the criteria is, are you at risk to yourself or others, or if you are feeling suicidial. A patient with long term mental health problems can be admitted for respite.

I understand the situation is dire at home, but I wonder if you spoke to the assessment team and explained. Admission to hospital is not the only option as there may be in your area, accommodation, I.e. Small houses for patients to stay with day support from the team, but a calmer environment than hospital admission to an acute ward, but obviously I do not know your level of need. I would speak to the assessment team and ask the options that are available to you. I guess you are feeling quite unsettled, but if you had respite from the home environment , and have the opportunity to decide what you wish for the future.

Hope this helps xx

Hi, I'm not sure that this is possible? The usual route is a referral by a consultant who prescribes a hospital admission as necessary for treatment of a condition. Why not ask your GP to refer you to a consultant? Try calling the Headway Helpline for advice. Wishing you all the best.
