Hi guys, I hope you are having a great weekend.

Has anyone had positive experiences seeing cranial osteopaths to help with Their head injuries?

Hi Lindsay,

Not for head injuries, but my granddaughter had a birth defect that caused hearing and head problems. A cranial osteopath worked wonders for her. Another grandchild had a very traumatic birth and cranial osteopathy changed a constant crying with pain child into a happy baby. I have used cranial sacral therapy for headaches and jaw problems with great success.

I would imagine that it would be very helpful for brain injuries too.

Jan, please can you tell us what the treatment involves & what exactly is an osteopath's aim when giving that treatment ? x

Cat, the osteo gently lays his fingers/hands on certain points on your skull, this somehow relieves the pressure at that point, allowing things to settle, move back to where they want to be. Its a very gentle, quiet treatment, but boy did I know something had happened, I could sometimes feel things moving, responding to his touch as his hands were on my head. I would then be totally knackered for about 2 days. He explained a lot of things too, that the medicos were never able to. Totally brilliant. I had about 6 sessions, then felt he could do no more. xx

Sounds wonderful Trudi. Thank you. I presume it's only available privately ? x

Yes, it was about £38 a go, but well worth it xx

Yes, as Trudi-Cox says, it is so gentle. I was absolutely convinced it was a load of rubbish when my grandchildren had it as I couldn't see the osteo doing anything except moving his hands a tiny, tiny amount. But it does work! I had cranio sacral therapy which is similar but apparently works on the fluid within the brain. Although I felt almost nothing, the difference it made to my headaches was amazing. In fact one day, when I thought she hadn't done much, I got such a terrible headache I had to go straight back to her and she explained that what she had done was so powerful that it needed a bit more 'adjusting'! Super stuff and if it works for you, wonderful. As you say though, it is all private as far as I know.

Thanks so much for this ; sounds fascinating ! I'm going to look further into the science of it online 'cause I'm interested to learn just what's happening to the patient physiologically during treatment.

Hi there - yes I went to one nearly 6 months after my fall when I started to have migraines and she was fantastic. I could hardly feel anything and she managed to lower the intensity and the frequency of the migraines. I still see her - nearly three years on from my concussion and she is great. I would thoroughly recommend it.
