I've noticed a padlock symbol on some posts. Does anyone know why?

When you write a post you then can decide if it can be seen by everyone on HealthUnlocked or that it is kept private to just members of this forum. If you click on the latter your post will then have a padlock next to it. If you don't click for it to be private to this forum everyone on HealthUnlocked wouldn't be notified but i think if they were browsing forum such as this Headway one, but not a member of it, they would be able to read your post.

Hi Strawberry and Scruffy,

I think Strawberry is right about the community thing, but also if a post doesn't have a padlock it means that even visitors to the website can see it - I base this on the fact that if I click on a link from my digest emails, the padlocked ones are the only ones I sometimes have to log in to see.

Let me check, I'll report back momentarily...

I think I'm right...you can read the first few lines of a padlocked post but after that it says "The author has hidden this post. You need to sign up or log in to read and reply", whereas for unlocked posts you can read the whole thing, you only need to sign up or log in if you want to reply to it.

I presume you all also know, which I didn't or had forgotten, till a couple of weeks ago, that when you write a post, if you click on Community (whether your profile is locked or not, then only the members of the community you are writing on will see your post and be able to post replies their replies.

Scruffycat, If you click on 'everyone'at end of your post - then it ends up in places like Facebook and other social media - it literally does go to everyone, not just your HU Community - that's what was explained to me on thyroid uk community. I'm sure if I've got it wrong someone will correct me. :-)

That's what I believe also, I lock my post's to ensure they remain in the community
