Relentlessly cheery?

Yeah, right.

In response to a request to see me looking more cheery, here you go.

Arm is numb, aching and painful all at the same time. To be honest, now, I just feel ill

So sorry Andy you look so downright miserable. Number 2 daughter broke her wrist right at the end of Uni, just before her sisters wedding, photos with pretty dress and arm in plaster! Then she had to negotiate Glastonbury and not get said plaster wet, black bin liners are great for keeping it dry.

Happy showering!

It'll pass and think of the new skills you'll have learnt!

Best wishes and chin up xxxxxxxx Janet

The only skill I've learnt is not to to punish a mini Baron by taking her scooter off her :)

I had eyed up a child on a scooter thinking " I could do that" but you've helped me quash that thought! Thank you xxx

It could have been soooo embarrassing.

I just want to be able to run again, not that I did much before but, you know what I mean, I could try and be like that lady in America who runs marathons and she's now turned 90!!!!!

Don't think so somehow 😀

Love Janet xx

Good effort Andy but not altogether convincing.

Definitely a case of gets worse before better 'cause healing is a painful business. Sorry you're feeling so rotten.

But think of poor Hollie witnessing such a shockingly brutal event ; she may be traumatised for life !! :-(

Hope the pain eases a bit more each day ; make sure you take maximum PKs for time being.

Love, Eileen xxx

The thing is, when it happened, I bounced up on my feet, reassured Hollie that I was fine, gave her a little kiss and waved her off to school. Then, on the five minute walk home, the pain started to kick in. The moment I hit the ground I KNEW I'd broken my wrist, but I didn't want a scene, an upset kid, etc, so I wandered home, screamed, rang Sharon, and the rest, is history...

Now that's impeccable parenting ! It's what we do to save our kids from fretting isn't it.

But showing courage & restraint in such challenging circumstances is hopefully good for MORE character-building .......................... think you've already had your fair share of that though.

I'd love to know what Sharon's response to your accident was ....................... or should I say the cause of it. :o

She was unable to show her true feelings due to the state I was in when she saw me. Though, I'm sure I saw a little smirk hidden behind the concern :(

Joshua is convinced the scooter is jinxed :)

I suspect there could be much pent-up mirth waiting to pounce once you show signs of recovery.

But we still laugh, years later, about the time I fell the length of the stairs. And despite hurting myself quite badly, the immediate silence in the house was broken by sniggering from various rooms.

My daughter and boyfriend appeared helpless & crying with laughter whilst saying 'I'm really sorry Mum......are you ok ? .....I know it's not funny, bla bla bla .

She later described how one minute I was singing to myself and the next there was the sound of 'Aaahhhhhh!' followed by Bump Bump Bump and expletives.

I didn't see the funny side 'til much later when the bruises had gone.

A while later, she too fell down the stairs, and I could appreciate the amusement value of such sound effects.

We love each other really.

Just share a rather dark humour ! xx

Oh yes, humour is the great leveller! We've laughed about it since it happened, often :D

I have to admit that after I had my 3 child I had a fantastic (not) idea to go to a roller disco. That also ended with me sporting a rather fetching cast too.

I didn't go to a&e on the night I did it, I thought it's bound to hurt as I'd fallen over and slammed into a side wall. After a sleepless night I got up and sorted out one for school and the other for nursery and had my eldest help with putting number 3 in a baby sling as I couldn't push a buggy. I dropped off 1&2 and got the bus in Leicester as I couldn't drive.

Try going for X-rays and getting casted with a squirmy 7 month old strapped to your front. They also tried to put my arm in a sling!

I got back in time to pick up from nursery sporting my new accessory.

Hurts like a sod for a week then settles nicely until IT comes off and then it takes a whiles to top up the tan and do the work at getting strength and mobility.

It's a much easier fix than a bump to the noggin tho 👍😃

Get well soon, Andy.

I've noticed they seem to use blue covered casts these days - does this mean they can't be signed by friends or does the blue part slip off ?

BaronC profile image
BaronC in reply to angelite

The blue part is part of the plaster and dries accordingly. I took a poll of friends and family the night before fracture clinic and blue won the day, with lime green a close second place.

It can't be signed as I've instructed all that any vandalism of said plaster will result in immediate death. Or worse :)
