He will have inherited the coeliac gene from you, however having the gene does not mean you will definitely develop coeliac. Both my children have coeliac disease, yet myself and their dad do not, one of us has passed on the gene to them.

You now need to get your son to the GP for a test, good luck.

Newly diagnosed coeliac, should my sons be tested - they have no symptoms? Thanks.

Yes, my youngest was diagnosed last summer, I pushed to get older tested (GP didn't want to as he had no obvious symptoms), he tested positive. Funnily enough he actually started to get symptoms a few weeks before his official diagnosis and I was relieved we had already started the process as it can take quite a while to get results back and wait for referrals to consultants. Now that he is GF he can see he has actually been having mild symptoms for quite a while, its only now that he feels 'normal' he realises his energy levels were low and he would sometimes have mild tummy discomfort. NICE guidelines are immediate family members should be tested, it's just a simple blood test, I'm glad we got our eldest tested.

Yes, undoubtably! I have cousins, one a nurse, confirmed as coeliacs. Their fathers, brothers of my father, like him, showed no coeliac signs.

The blood test is unsound, giving both false positive and false negative results, and should not be relied upon for a true diagnosis. This is the advice of a "Dietary" Professor specialising in paediatric care.
