Hi Rhitho,

Something that I have learnt over the years and you may find useful is the poor man's bladder medicine. This is the use of grapefruit - probably the easiest form of this are the various High Juice Pink Grapefruit drinks from the supermarket. Make up a glass 3/4 to a pint - a medium to weak glass of it and drink it whenever you feel the need. There is something within a grapefruit that kills off bacteria in this area of the body.

You may like to take a look at the following links which relate to coeliac disease and urinary tract infections. There appears to be a growing number of people putting the two conditions together or asking others if they are connected.

I suffered with UTIs or cystitis for years. When I was diagnosed with coeliac and and followed my GF diet I noticed that all these symptoms disappeared. Gluten doesn't just attack gut tissue it attacks lots of tissues. It is an auto immune disease and wherever it appears in the body an immune response occurs. If it is excreted via the urinary system it's going to cause problems there.

glutenfreesociety.org is a really brilliant website, check it out. And follow Dr Rodney Ford, a New Zealand paediatrician and allergy specialist who has an interest in gluten illnesses, gluten can damage the brain as well as the gut.

Yes & No. Many people experience different symptoms due to the immune system fighting gluten eg my sister had multiple UTIs for years - whereas I had thrush regularly. Not sure which was worse - suspect she got the worse deal there. Once the immune system can re-balance on a GF Diet then many 'old' issues subside and you may find like others that you don't have these flare up again unless you get glutened. Other symptoms associated / mentioned by coeliacs pre-diagnosis and in research are:

- hayfever

- Psoriasis (an auto-immune condition that affects the skin)

- Eczema

- UTIs

- Thrush

- High blood pressure

- Fatigue

- Constipation or going often

- loss of co-ordination (gluten ataxia)

- foggy headedness

- ulcers in mouth + on tongue

- skin rashes

- bone ache

A variety of symptoms which can be due to other illnesses or CD which makes diagnosis so slow.

I appeared to have urinary tract problems, but electrolites were low and caused lots of discomfort. After avocado pears and bananas no furter urinary problems. I still try and keep potassium levels ok mainly by guessing now. Not really sure why potassium levels went low, then I didnt eat bananas but do now.

I was diagnosed with CKD 3, coeliac desease and Sjögren’s syndrome all at the same time about 3 years ago. (I've had Greaves deasese for many years) My Consultand seems to think its the Sjogren's that causes my Kidney Problems. Now I'm begining to wonder!
