Hi to all. I hope this information helps.

Following my diagnosis in 2013, I visited the Akassi Swiss resort, Marsa Alam, Egypt. I chose this holiday through Thomson and their welfare department ensured that the resort rep and hotel were aware of my status as a Coeliac. I knew it could be a risk, I took some GF food with me(bread/pasta/cereal). I was given an additional 5kg baggage to accommodate the food. Upon arrival, I had a meeting with the rep and the head chef. The head chef introduced me to all of the other chefs and explained to them what I need them to do for me. They assured me of their procedures to avoid cross-contamination etc and I was invited to choose meals that were then specially made for me. They didn't have GF pasta so I provided and they cooked. Other foods, they cooked separately in front of me such as chicken, beef etc. I tended to eat cereal or eggs for breakfast and after breakfast chose my lunch from the salad/fruit bar and my evening meal through the head chef. I was so well looked after and didn't suffer any issues for the 2-week stay. In 2014, we took a 2-week holiday to the Riu Palace Hammamet Marhaba, Tunisia. Booked through Thomson and, again, welfare. Same process as with Egypt, same support at home and in resort. Surprisingly, upon arrival, I was told that they happily cater for Coeliacs and that they had GF flour, pasta etc in stock. So I ate very well with the chefs making me fresh bread, pizza etc upon request a day ahead of needing it. Had a superb holiday. In fact, it was so good, we are going back again this year!! It's fair to say that you do need to plan meals more to get the best out of foreign resorts and you have to be prepared to communicate well in order to avoid the usual pitfalls. Also, be observant of what chefs do in front of you as well as other guests, particularly at buffet meals. 3 years ago, I had lost my confidence in foreign travel but, with care, really enjoying being normal again.
