How many of you find it hard to tolerate GF alcohol since going gluten free?

Have you given it up altogether? Noticed you are allergic to sulphites? Or found it easier to tolerate the longer you have been gluten free for?

I have found that the only alcoholic beverages I can now consume are Smirnoff Vodka (made from corn) and Brandy that has no caramel colouring, all the others are off limits including Martini Rosso as it is made with Vodka.

I certainly stopped drinking Australian red wines - which I had enjoyed regularly for years before realising my gluten intolderance - as once I stopped eating gluten I found that Aussie reds caused my itchy skin rash to appear! Almost immediately within ingesting...French reds (Bordeaux) don't seem to have the same effect. I read that some Aussie wineries use a wheat-based paste to seal their wine barrels. Not sure if this may be the cause. Also I tried gluten-free lager with great delight (Greens? I think) and didn't feel good at all so have not tried again. Although I didn't feel 'glutened' I certainly didn't feel good after drinking, so that was odd. I tend to stick to cider, white wine, or the occasional Bordeaux red, and Scottish single malt whisky. Not sure if whisky is strictly ok but it's my last remaining vice and I am not giving it up!
