hi. I’ve read reports that there’s a link and people with glaucoma can develop Alzheimer’s.
I’ve had glaucoma for 10 years and I’m 41. Anyone else still got glaucoma and their senses?

I have glaucoma and all my senses!
I have had glaucoma for 20 years. I’m 74 and still haven’t gone gaga
I’ve had glaucoma for 20 years and so far so good- still fully functional!! Fingers crossed for future cognitive abilities!
hi there,
Well, I’m 82 & had glaucoma diagnosed in 1993. My wife says I’m often stupid, but so far no sign of dementia. My body is definitely showing signs of old age, but the brain seems fully functional!
I’m 74, diagnosed with glaucoma 17 years ago, still reading non-fiction & doing codeword, crosswords & sudoku!
I am 72 having had glaucoma for 15 years and still have all my marbles although my son and daughter might disagree with my answer! But obviously with ageing short term memory at times can be vague. But remembering all my eye drops with my trab operated eye recently and non operated eye is a good test for anyone !
can you tell us where you these reports? who was the Author? have you got a link?
There are also links with Alzheimer's and cancer! I am very wary of such studies as it's (generally) the older generations that suffer these illnesses and so the statistics can be skewed.I'm sure research funds would be better spent curing the illnesses rather than spent to panic the population!
I've had glaucoma for going on nearly 26 years , brainbox is still going strong .
I agree with Quantum, the key association is age. Why are you worrying, at 41?
Mind you, all you people declaring tyour robust mental health, dementia causes diminished cognitive awareness, so can you really be sure...?!
No two forms of dementia are the same and each have different causes.
Alzheimer’s is believed to be caused by a build up of amyloid beta protein plaques which can block the neural pathways. I’ve never heard of amyloids being linked to glaucoma. I’m a drugs trial study partner of someone with Alzheimer’s, and I’m pretty sure that none of the other people we meet at the trial centre have glaucoma.
