Does anyone have an update on taking vitB3 niacin? After asking what I could personally do to help with my glaucoma, apart from the obvious healthy eating and regular excercise my consultant wrote down supplements, albeit no strength was mentioned. So since nov 2022 (the last time I saw that particular consultant) I have been taking Ginkgo Biloba/120mg, CoQ-10/100mg and VitB3 Niacin/100mg-all x1 dose daily. I read an old post on here recently and someone was taking 6x500mg VitB3 daily and their glaucoma had become stable. I can't find where I can purchase the higher dose. Any help/suggestions/update re VitB3 greatly appreciated.. thankyou

I have been taking B3 because I read about the experiment done with glaucoma patients. In that research they were given very high doses of it . 3000 mg every day for a period of time. I believe Moorfiekds are now doing trials. I asked my Eye consultant about it. He said they are not allowed to prescribe it at present, as research is insufficient. You can easily find it to buy in online health stores. I have it in 250mg and 500mg capsules. I started on 250 and gradually built up to 1000 a day. Eye consultant said it was worth trying although he couldn’t recommend a dose. My glaucoma has stabilised although I don’t think it would be down to B3 alone as I am a bit forgetful with pills. Definately worth trying . I also take Ginko Bilbao but I think research on that has only be done in mice.

Brilliant. thanku.I already take 100mg a day since November when I asked what I could do to help myself..

I've just ordered 500mg ones to replace the 100mg and will build up gradually.

My desperation is making me look at everything!

yes, it’s worth taking and let’s hope trials at Moorfields are positive. What helped me most though was changing my thinking around it and stopping the anxiety and panic.

Yes I must keep thinking positive and looking for positive stuff. I am very much an optimist but this situation brings me down from time to time.. as I guess with all of us.

Thanku

What dose of Ginko do you take daily?

I think it’s 120mg. I got them from Natures Best. It says do not exceed stated dose and since there are no human trials I just take one a day ( if I remember).

Mine are 120mg too and been taking them since Nov 2022.I take all supplements religiously and have always been 100% compliant with every eye drop prescribed and naively thought that would hold deteriation at bay but it seems that's not the case...

yes, me too, always take eye drops. My glaucoma was stable for a decade or more but suddenly deteriorated in 2019.

A year on now and I'm still taking 3g B3 a day in the hope that there's a positive outcome of the 4? year trial🤞I won't know about further loss until I have a further VFTest-hopefully at the end of June-the last one showed a slight deteriation in VField- unable to say why a slight deteriation and I'm not sure the consultant knows to be fair.

I just take supplements suggested and keep on top of healthy eating-and trying to keep positive.

Thankyou
