Hello there, I have bought a heated mask from amazon as I have thyroid eye disease and also dry eyes.I have found it helpful and comforting. It can go in the microwave or in the fridge as a cooling mask.I have since been diagnosed with raised pressures and take one latanopost drop in each eye every night.I have not thought about a possible adverse effect on eye pressure.I will be interested to know if anyone has any other advice.

I have used one both before and after my trab. My IOP fluctuates wildly between low teens into and above high 30s. My consultant has been happy for me to it it. I know my friend with normal tension glaucoma uses one too. But we are all different.

my consultant recommended it and I had HOP / Glaucoma and dry eye .

It has been a godsend. I have not needed steroids for the dry eye for 6 months now when previously I had to have them quite regularly because it go so bad.

But buy a simply cheap microwave . It does the trick and if you haven’t got one then use a flannel warmed in hot water and squeezed out

Thanks for the advice but just checking....you mean use a flannel warmed in hot water on its own, and not over the eye mask? I'm asking as I don't have a microwave.

hi , yes , I just had a flannel that I use for my eyes only . There are also eye pads that you plug in I my you don’t have a microwave .

It’s been seriously brilliant . Use it a few times a week now but initially twice a day.

But still use lubricating eye drops too

Thanks for the valuable advice! Just one more question: how long do you hold the hot flannel over eyes for? A relaxing ten mins lying on the bed??

Hi

That would be absolutely fine. The instruction on the eye pads and the consultant both said about 7minutes. The consultant said so the flannel as hot as is comfortable . So a relaxing warm 7mins twice a day initially and then reduce to a few times a week .

You gauge it for yourself as to the benefits and it is not harmful. Just ensure it’s comfortable not feeling too hot. It cools gradually

Let me know how it goes

Thank you! I already tried it today - am hooked. I do clean my eyes every morning with hot water but this is a definite addition to my regime. And anything to do with relaxing gets my vote! This glaucoma is a stressy business. Good luck to you x

The consultant who did my cataract op recommended taking omega 3 for dry eyes as well as the warm eye mask. Seems there has been some research on this.

oops, further to my comment above, I’ve just googled omega 3 and the consensus is that they are no better than a placebo for dry eyes. I’m still taking them though.
