How long have you been advised to keep you eye dry for after Preserflo Microshunt Surgery? Therefor not getting water in your eye whilst showering
Preserflo microshunt: How long have you been... - Glaucoma UK
Preserflo microshunt
Hi I kept my eye dry from last November when I had the operation at a recent check up 2 weeks ago I ask the original surgeon that did my operation "if I should always try and keep my eye dry" he said yes because you have a bleb . When I shower I direct the shower down a bit so it doesn't go in my face and lastly redirect the shower with my eyes closed to wash my face keeping my eye closed and have a towel or flannel near that I can gently dry my face. Sounds complicated but you soon get use to it. Also told not to get sea water in the eye, as with all advice given on this site re check at your next check up. My very best wishes to you. Geoff
so you can never get your eye wet in the future??
I'm going to check that again at my next check up on 23rd of this month but that is what he said but I rarely see the same consultant twice so I'll get another opinion and let you all know.
Hi,
I had a MicroShunt inserted in Novememebr last year. The advice at the time was to keep it dry for a couple of week, though the longer the better. I showered around the eye in the after that (head back so i could wash my hair). Since then i've slowly returned to normal however the only difference being is that i now subconciously shower with my eye shut. The other thing i;ev trained myself to do is not to rub the eye. This is one things that could impact any tube inserted so have been very concious of it. Shame really as i used to like rubbing my eyes when i was tired. Now i have to confort myself just rubbing the one eye!!
Thanks for your helpful reply. I had Preserflo Microshunt only 11 days ago, however was able to finally wash my hair in the shower today. I was mindful NOT to get eye wet, so like you, tipped my head right back and was super careful.
HOWEVER, my pressure is still too high so may have needling!, Is this an easy procedure???
Glad you are working out the hair washing!! Its certainly a skill that needs to be learnt. I am 4 months on from my surgery and now i dont think about it anymore when washing. Still keep my eye shut and dont rub it but the fear has definetly gone.
As for needling i havent had any experience that that so can not offer my thoughts. I'd suggest posting a seperate topic on this board so people can see if and reply (else they might not see this conversation). There are some good people on here with experience who i am sure could tell you more.
Best wishes
