Discovered today I have Strep B. Am trying to conceive. Can this affect my chances & should I be treated for this before becoming pregnant?

Hi there - we know of no evidence that shows carrying group B Strep affects the ability to conceive.

Carriage of GBS does not require treatment (only GBS infection does), although if you're still carrying GBS in the last weeks of pregnancy, they you should be offered intravenous antibiotics when you're in labour to minimise the risk of GBS infection in your baby.

There's lots more info about group B Strep in our FAQs at gbss.org.uk/FAQs or give us a call/email 01444 416176/info@gbss.org.uk
