Where did you get the best information about group B Strep?
my daughter was poorly with it after she had her baby last yr ,she was tested again and found she still had it a few weeks later but she has been told they wouldnt check it again with her nxt pregnancy and would not be given antibiotics during labour
Hi, I know how your daughter feels as I'm pregnant with my 2nd and I was told the same thing. I find this very upsetting as I had it with my wee girl and was treated during labour. My midwife told me this but my GP didn't know this. Iv signed sum petitions to get every woman screened. I told midwife I was concerned bout giving birth as this can cause harm to my baby. Was told they don't make rules. Don't understand as I'm a carrier. However I hav discharge so gp took swab and came bak with GBS. No point in treatment as it will reoccur. Hopefully this will help me to get treated during labour. Sorry for rant but no1 seems to understand how frustrating this is x
hi angela ,thanks for your reply ,stacie was told she wouldnt get treatment with her second and she also is a carrier ,why if they no u have it do they not automaticly give antibiotics surely its better than having a poorly baby,it just doesnt make sense
All UK guidelines recommend that, if GBS is found in the current pregnancy or if you've previously had a baby sick with GBS infection, then you should automatically be offered antibiotics in labour.
GBS carriage can come and go so simply carrying GBS one pregnancy (without your baby becoming sick) isn't a good indicator of whether you'll be carryings GBS in another pregnancy - that's why in countries which do routinely test for GBS carriage, they do it every pregnancy/
