Joe - I've been on regular use (daily) of melatonin of varying dosages (10-40 mg) for many years now. I started out a longer time ago with a much smaller dosage (2-3 mg) as a sleep assist and at times had some really lucid dreams. No issues with current dosages, altho I switched companies and had some sleep interruptions with the newer product. I now use a combo of old-and-new (30mg total) and am back to my normal sleep pattern.

As far as PCa is concerned, here is a recent PCa meta-study that should help you decide about possible benefits:

Melatonin and Prostate Cancer: Anti-tumor Roles and Therapeutic Application, Aging and Disease, 2023 Jun 1; 14(3): 840–857, Published online 2023 Jun 1.

Here is the study Conclusion:

5. Conclusion

This review summarizes the numerous cellular mechanisms by which melatonin demonstrates anti-tumor activity in prostate cancer. More specifically, we describe those mechanisms that relate to the indolamine’s ability to modulate prostate cancer cell metabolic activity, cell cycle progression and proliferation, androgen signaling, angiogenesis, metastasis, immunity and oxidative cell status, apoptosis, genomic stability, neuroendocrine differentiation, and the circadian rhythm. Further in vitro and in vivo studies are necessary to not only validate these mechanisms, but also to discover additional mechanisms not yet described in the literature. Finally, while these anti-tumor properties have been demonstrated in laboratory models of prostate cancer, future clinical trials are necessary to determine the efficacy of supplemental, adjunct, adjuvant melatonin therapy for the prevention and treatment of prostate cancer.

Stay Safe & Well,

Ciao - cujoe

PS There have been several studies that found wide variation in the melatonin content (and other unlabeled ingredients) in melatonin supplements. Here are links to three:

I’ve been on melatonin for about 2 years and it has been good for sleep. I also have vivid dreams. I am on 20MG down from 60MG because I was worried about dependency. I see very little downside and the potential slowing of PCa, so will stay on it .

Been taking lots of melatonin for many years, about 35 mg now. Vivid days faded over time, now back to normal.
