She already has a diagnosis of attachment disorder and we have secured a commitment from our LA to fund therapy. In light of the new diagnosis I am not sure attachment therapy is the most appropriate intervention
Does anyone have any advice on what we should be asking for?

Attachment therapy may cause more problems. You would be better getting speech and language therapy and social skills group as it is often inappropriate social interaction and struggles to express emotion.
Her speech is good but socially she is way behind her peers. She can have very violent outbursts
We had very bad outcomes from previous therapy and I am wary now of child psychology
Is there any therapy known to help or parenting courses?
I feel that having the LA willing to fund something is a once in a lifetime chance and would like to use the funding if there is anything that is appropriate
The FASD Trust runs parenting workshops. Speech and language are the ones who give help with social skills. get her receptive language tested; that is her ability to understand what is said to her. Therapy tends not to work with this group
I can thoroughly recommend the FASD trust parenting workshops. Also support groups held at numerous locations around the country. In my experience speech is usually good but is often phrases they have heard and repeat often in context but don't understand. Speech and language therapy is a must.
I agree with the others, good speech often masks poor understanding. I would contact Dr Raja Mukhergie ( hope this is correct spelling ) he is an expert on FASD and could be a great source of advice .... You are right this is a great opportunity and needs to be used well... Good luck x
my AD aged 5 has FAE and also attachment disorder for which she is shortly to begin psychotherapy so i am a bit disturbed to read above comments. she has severe social and emotional difficulties and is aggressive and violent to everyone she comes into contact with. we are having the most horrendous time imaginable and was pinning my hopes on treatment
I had a telephone consultation with Dr Raj Mucherjee
Anyone can do this- just look on line for the surrey clinic
He said the problem is that CAMHS and other therapists typically start therapy with out a full comprehensive assessment. This is what happened with my DD with very extreme consequences
I did feel that the therapy was a 'one size fits all'
He said that no therapy was wrong just that a full assessment is needed and a very good understanding of FASD
I think they need too a good understanding of attachment issues
the psychotherapist just seems very focussed on an attachment disorder, the FAE hasnt really come into it. i am so confused. due to start the therapy next week. i am at breaking point with her behaviour so am hoping we see some improvement.
