I also recommend you and all dyslexics read the book titled "In the Mind's Eye" by Thomas G. West, Prometheus Books 1997.The subtitle is "Visual thinkers, gifted people with dyslexia and other learning difficulties, computer images and the ironies of creativity".
West expalins many different manifestations of dyslexia, and the links with unusual high intellect and abilities. He shares the stories of some of the most gifted thinkers of our civilization who were dyslexic and dyscalculic, and who often had trouble with regular school maths and the like. These are people like Faraday, Maxwell, Einstein, Dodgson, Poincare, Edison, Tesla, da Vinci, Churchill, Patton, and Yeats.
Another interesting person whose story is not contained in West's book is Temple Grandin, an autistic adult woman in the United States who could not do high school geometry, yet she now designs world class humane cattle handling facilities. Because of her autism, she thinks and perceives the world as animals do, avoiding features that could disturb them. Because of her visual thinking, she designs and test runs each facility in her head, and she knows how it will work before it is built. Her lectures can be seen on YouTube. Two of her books are: "Thinking in Pictures," and "Animals in Translation."
Temple Grandin's life and work shows us that for dylsexics, autism spectrum (ASD), ADD, and other right-brained and visual thinkers, the best thing is to get into something you are good at and really love, and skip over the traps of elementary and secondary education.
