If you are Dyslexic are you a right o... - The Dyslexia Comm...
If you are Dyslexic are you a right or left brain learner ?? Im taking a small survey. My son is a right brain learner.
I didnt know there were such distinctions, I had to look up the two different learning styles, to be honest neither style applied to myself, I think learn in different ways depending on teaching styles, topics and situation etc.
I m new to all this. Could someone explain to me the right and left side of learning please.
your left brain people are your logical thinkers. They can be described as logical, sequential, memorization, compliant, external perfectionism, product and time. where as your right brain people are very creative, they lean best by being hands on. These people can be described as imaginative, pictural based learners, global, whole, association, intuitive, resistant, internal perfectionist ,and processors.
Right is the creative side of the brain and the one which tends to be predominantly used by a dyslexic person as they are very visual and see the bigger picture. The left is the auditory sequential side which is how we are taught in all our schools today which is why dyslexics struggle to learn in a school environment. Being visual learners is great as it also means once the information is absorbed and understood then generally it is understood more completely that it is for a left brained learner.
I really do not know which side of the brain works best for me. How would I know this? I thought I might have been a visual learner, but I really struggled to understand many things in my school years, and I find it so difficult to absorb and understand information. Would this mean Im a left learner?
I have no idea whether I'm right or a left brain learner, How do you know what side of the brain your son uses?
My daughter me and my son are all right hand brain dyslexics, We can all do maths but really struggle with spelling and ordering, written work, our brains and our lives in general. We are also all creative makes for an interesting home life!
Spooky, I just googled right handed brain, I hadn't done that before, my information came from some dyslexic research I had read, but my daughter is really good with animals, am an artist and my sons an actor.
Really interesting as I thought you could tell by what hand you use predominantly to write with. I think I was wrong on this, explains a lot though!
I have learned so much lately by using google search ! Still looking for reading programs for him that he can actually learn from.

Hi, I am a dyslexic, a psychology graduate and also a young researcher who has published a paper on dyslexics individuals' life experiences in Malaysia.
Yes, the left brain is predominantly in charge of language and logic thinking whereas the right brain in predominantly in charge of creative thinking and expressions. Based on the brain lateralization concept, the left side of your brain controls the right side of your body, whereas the right side of your brain controls the left side of your body. Some research indicate that dyslexics have right-brain functions (creative thinking) that overwhelm the left-brain functions (language), hence the difficulty in reading. And because of that, dyslexics are theorized to be mostly left-handers and right-brainers. To support this is the fact that many popular "claimed-to-be-dyslexic" and creative people are left-handed (you can google them ). BUT, there are also research who oppose such notion just because left-handers get picked on (more attention) more often than any right-hander. It is always an on-going debate whether most dyslexics are left-handers or there simply isn't any significant difference but I'm a right hander and pretty sure I use both left and right side brains depending on the type of task I engage on (because I can get really creative yet analytic enough).
Cheers!
Both my son and i are dyslexic and we're both very right hand side - creative visual -Big picture learners and problem solvers. Both right handed though, but definitely right brain too.
Deffo a rightyyyyy, the left hand thing is silly. I'm right handed and an artist, I knew another dyslexic at art college who was left handed. He wanted me to teach him how to draw, case closed.
