HI

l would start with looking at Dyslexia Action website lots of info there. Contact your local Dyslexia Action centre.

l dont know what you have done but here are a few suggestions

Have him assesed/tested for dyslexia they do that at the centre's

Does the school know how you feel if not get to speak to the SENCO they are head of special needs at school.

The main thing l found kept my children's self esteem going was having something that they were good at outside of school, music ,sport, dance art, fishing etc and really big him up in this

If you have done all the above l tried a reading system called Toe by Toe and there is a package of computer software developed by a dyslexia centre called Nessy if you google that you are sure to find it. There are also a range of books from Barrington Stokes that are designed for dyslexic readers, font colour of paper and the way they are printed they are fab.

l wish you and your son the ver best anything else l can help you with please contact me.

Thank you for your ideas. We are in the United States do they offer that program here? We have been through 4 reading programs and nothing is clicking with him. We are going to a Audiologist next month to see if he has audio prossesing disorder also. His speech and language is impaired and has very low morking memory. We were just told that he is a right brain learner. Which makes things more difficult. UGH !

My son saw an audiologist last week and it was such a positive experience as he was diagnosed with having APD Auditory Processing Disorder. He had been mistakenly been told by the school that he was dyslexic but having had him assessed this was found to be incorrect. All children who have Dyslexia have APD to some degree as I understand it but you can have APD but not Dyslexia. My son was not learning in the classroom environment but was presenting as a more average learner elsewhere when taught one to one and at home. There is a lot that can be done to support APD in the classroom and this is very helpful to Dyslexic children too. If you think about it, helping the information to get into the brain is half the battle and will improve your childs confidence massively. We have been given a piece o tech equipment to be trialled in the classoom where the teacher wears a microphone and my son wears a micro dot in his ear to ensure he hears all of the teachers instructions clearly and at the right level. Ordinary learners learn at 16 decibels and apparently children with APD, Dyslexia, Autistic etc etc learn at about 20 decibels. Fascinating stuff. Good luck. By the way being a right brain learner should be seen as apositive thing - your child will be talented and creative, you just have to get them through school first. I found some really interesting reading on the subject of visual spatial learners which you might like to have a look at:

Hello justinsmom - we have designed a programme for you to use with your son. If you are interested, I can send you a demo disc. But look at our website first. The website is *link removed by moderator* and the programme is called Access Literacy. You can contact me at *link removed by moderator* I am the author and would be happy to chat. Best wishes, Gina
