It might give you a better idea if you go through the pro's and cons with regards to your lifestyle and add them up with a list on either side..

Hi, I'm a CAPD patient ( never been on haemo) and find it fits in with my home and work life perfectly. I work full time, play hockey at the weekends and holiday as much as possible :) started CAPD when my daughter was about 18 months old and she's 6 now so running round after a child has been fine too! There are obviously disadvantages with CAPD but I'm glad I made the choice I did and have a great set of community nurses if any problems arise. Hope this helps, feel free to message me if you want to know more :)

Talk to some patients, the nurse will arrange. I had no choice and had to have haemo, disrupts your life a lot time wise, especially going to hospital, but you need to see what is best for you and your lifestyle,

Hi we have done overnight and CAPD and are now on Haemo, we know that Haemo disrupts your life but since being on it my husband has never been so well and at least you know you are getting full dialysis, but again you must do what is best for you.

Please may I ask why he eventually went on haemo, my sister started notional PD two months ago and is really ill no appetite, vomiting often, very depressed, no energy, we keep hoping things will improve but they don't.

Hi Sisterstruggling. He has had a stroke in 2012 so the whole bowel thing became a nightmare, back and forward to clinic, days spent on the loo when u need to use a stairlift was to much for him, had the PD tube repositioned twice, and a few other hiccups, was never well, always over loaded, after last admission it was decided this was best for him, yes it does distrup your life but at least we know it is working and he is well, at present we are pushing for home haemodiaylsis. Have a long chat with your home PD nurse, in some cases you can go from Ph to Haemo and then back to PD one good thing is you get the weekend off which we make the most of and go away.

Thank you supernan56 for your quick response I did not know you can go from one to the other and back again. Good luck to you both.
