That's wonderful to hear about the walking. When do you do the walking and how long? :-)

I walk daily weather permitting. I have limited mobility and poor balance, but I know it's important to keep exercising this easy way. I walk around the village streets and aim for 20-30 minutes, mainly in the early afternoon. I use a rollater to help keep me keep upright and safe. Walking is beneficial for my mental health too.

This is good to know about the amount of time and where you go for walking each day. I walk up and down the house steps because I can't go out too much due to allergy issues with pollen and the time isn't good during the week. :-)

I also have stairs and I try to walk up and down these on a daily basis. Allergy issues and high pollen can't be nice for you to have to cope with. Do take care, stay well and keep safe.

Thank you for saying that. I try to get the doors/windows kept closed on the really bad pollen count days so I don’t have any extra issues along with the type 1 Diabetes. I had a lot of issues when I was still working because I had gotten bronchitis from allergies building up and causing the blood sugars to go higher and kept me from exercising.

To be honest I've never considered exercise to be a part of blood sugar maintenance. I try and monitor myself with snacks in between meals and stay hydrated during any type of work or exercise..

When a person does exercise of any type, the effect of exercise may not show up/show effects of lower blood sugars until a few hours later, so you may want to do a blood test before and after you’re done exercises for the time. If you are lower afterwards, see if you have any snacks with some carbs. in it.😀👍

Thanks for the info.. I don't test my blood. I mainly have carb type snacks with me when I work and when I feel the "sensations" of being low I go for a stick or two of "String Cheese" Or some cold O.J. it's available.

Juice and cheese are good for lows. Do you have snack bars, too? 😀👍

in reply toActivity2004

Yes I do. Thanks.

This is good! Walking in the house/apartment twice-three times a day is great for blood sugars and weight loss in general, too.😀👍

One of the best exercise of all is stair climbing or Nitric Oxide dumping. This has tremendous reduction in glucose level, do stair 1.45min after every meal minimum 150 stairs up an down. Check the results before and after you will see the magic

Walking and jogging will help, but more prudent physical exercise (including aerobics) is very effective along with yoga and pranayama. For diabetics, Nitric oxide dumping by means of stair climbing and specific exercise will help a lot (see youtube for nitric oxide dumping exercise)

Can you please let me know what nitric oxide dumping is, again?

THIS IS A VERY SIMPLE and quick exercise that works on stimulating your lymphatic system. It is quick and very easy to do and is excellent for people who struggle to find time for exercise, or who are very busy. For me, I am both, so it has been a lifesaver. It is so quick to do that I can usually fit it in, in the morning while I am waiting for my coffee to brew – that’s how little time it takes to do it. Check in youtube for Dr. Zach Bush Nitric Oxide Dump. Doing stair climbing for those who can do is effective workout.

I do swimming 30 minutes and indoor cycling for 10 minutes but not on regular basis. Average you can say 60 days swimming in a year and 30- 40 days indoor cycling in a year. And my HBA1C remains between 6.5-7.5(48-58). And I have diabetes since from June 1995. 26 years have been gone.

This is good to hear about the exercises that you have been doing during the year. It's good to know that the A1c has been stable and close to the same range as it has been for a long time.
