I had braces when I was in high school. Its been over 15 years now and I have begun to notice my front lower teeth starting to shift and crowding. Apparently, a fitted retainer wouldn't do the job so I had to get orthodontic braces again. midental.ca/services/orthod... Now I'm happy about it. I used to remember how painful and difficult it was to get braces when you are a kid. Now they seem much comfortable even though I have to take care while brushing.I always thought braces were once for life and people don't go the second time in their life. But I know that if I had just used a retainer when I was younger I wouldn't have had to go through this again. I do already see my smile moving back to how it was. I asked the doctor how long should I be wearing the retainer? To my surprise, he told I don't need it again. What if my teeth tend to move forward? I don't wanna go through this again. Why didn't the doctor suggest a retainer?

That sounds odd! I had a brace about 3/4 years ago now and was told I’d need to keep wearing my retainer. I probably don’t wear it as regularly as I should, but when I can see that they’ve moved, I wear it for a night. Maybe you could ask why you won’t need to wear one?
If it turns out that your retainer has become warped, the orthodontist can fit you with a new one or possibly adjust the previous one. For those who haven't been wearing their retainer enough, the orthodontist might be able to provide a new retainer that can get your teeth to where they need to be.
