I want to start taking mucuna pruriens as a substitute for my sinemet (100/25). Should I take 1/2 sinemet and 1/8 tsp. of MP ?

My mucuna pruriens made no difference to me. I stopped it as if you replace your body with dopamine it makes it lazier at producing it. What you need to do , in my opinion, as im trying is to reduce your adrenalin level in your body.stress levels., improve your digestion ..take healthy supplements, ..particularly co enzyme q 10 and vit c and zinc, eat veggie and take avocado and fave beans in your diet...natural dopamine. Exercise..yoga and qi gong, little throughout the day when you have a moment! Relax! And smile..keep positive and think well....get your body into its natural balance free of emotional blockages. We are all on the same journey..

Why do you want to do this?

I have researced MP and it is natural and does not have the dyskenisia side effects that sinemet has. I have been on sinemet for 4 yrs. and I am starting to exhibit some unwanted movements.....I want to get off sinemet and if MP can help.....that is the direction I will take. Ultimately I would like to not have to take the MP either......but in the meantime I do not want to suffer......

Hello BMakla54,

As you know, we have discussed this on your blog, but to try and answer your question I did an experiment on your behalf yesterday when I dropped my normal 10mg dose of MP to 5mg (teaspoon), but still took the half 25/100mg Sinemet tablet with it. It was with the Zandopa which I am using up. My finding was that I did not 'come on' at all after the first dose, but did for the second dose only for a short time though. The same for the third dose.

I think Hilarypeta has a point about the danger in making our body lazy, but I started sometime ago and my little experiment indicates that my body 'expects' a 10mg dose. Having said that, I go for a walk at 7am five mornings a week before I take a MP Sinemet dose and find that my walking at this time is better than later in the day, but my tremor is still pronounced and is really only alleviated after I take my 10 mg dose of MP with a half of Sinemet tablet.

I hope that I have explained this well enough for you to understand where I am coming from.

I can only suggest that you try starting with an eight or quarter teaspoon of MP with Sinemet tablet (half) for ay three or four days and see how you get on. You may find it does the trick, but you may find you have to increase the dose until you find one that works.

Regards

Norton

Hello BMakla54,

In order to answer your question accurately we will need to know the answers to all of the following questions, and, depending on those answers we will probably have more questions to answer...sorry... not trying to be difficult, just trying to be careful!

How much do you weigh?

What other negative side effects do you/have you experienced with any and all PD meds so far?

How quickly does your body metabolize medication?

How many times a day are you going to be taking MP and/or sinemet?

Have you been doing extended release sinemet or standard release?

Is extended release MP something you can easily gain access to?

How strong is the MP you'll be taking?

Is it powder, liquid, alcohol based tincture or?

What does your movement disorder specialist recommend?

Is your MP coming from a verified standardized source or?

What does your pharmacist recommend?

How familiar with MP are your pharmacist and MDS?

Which of the people who are providing you advice on this site are certified licensed pharmacists?

Which others have done standard double blind tests with adequate numbers of tested subjects?

Which others have only provided you heresay vs accurate info, vs anecdotal info?

Hope this helps!

Hi Steve. I weigh 148lbs and I am 5'9".....The side effects I have experienced in the 4 yrs. of PD meds are nausea at times, constipation and lately unwanted movements like swaying. I would say my body metabolizes medication normal......right now I take 1 sinemet 100/25 3x daily and 1/2 requip 3x daily......at night I take 1 1/2 zanaflex ( for a periphial nerve issue) neurontin ( restless leg) 2 requip and 4.5 mg LDN. I do not take extended release sinemet......the MP I will be taking is an organic powder...do not know the strength.....will look it up and get back with you. My neurologist doesn't know about the MP. I only just told him about the LDN....he wouldn't prescribe that for me, so my family Dr. did. He seemed to be OK when I told him since I had improved so much. Quite frankly I don't know what he will say about the MP....I am a little anxious about telling him. I ordered 3 different sources of MP: 1. zandopa which is a standard extract 2. Organic MP powder form "Indigo Herbs of Glastonbury" which is a herbal Tincture extraction 3:1 ratio 3. MP seed powder from Z Natural foods...still trying to figure out which one to take. I have not spoken to a pharmacist. My research has been on line..........

Talk to the pharmacist and your neurologist/MDS before making change in your meds!

Best wishes,

Do you have any suggestion?

The doc increased my dosage from 1 to 1 1/2 pills of Sinemet( 25/100) three times a day. .

I start taking mucuna pruriens to lower dose of sinemet instead of increasing the sinemet dosage. Does anyone have a suggested dosage of mucuna pruriens to supplement 1 pill of sinemet 25/100 three times a day, in hopes of increasing mucuna pruriens gradually while decreasing sinemet? I also been taking Dr. Costantini's B1 therapy,1 B1 in the morning for 1 month, has not seemed to make much difference. I have a lot of Mucuna 15 % strong by Solay (50mg L-dopa) and Now(150 mg L-dopa). Can I combining and how? Also I went to google and recommendation to take Mucuna after protein meal which helps the mucuna to cross the blood brain barrier.

I feel like I am swimming in a middle of the ocean...
