Watching The News gives me tremors. Why can't we all just chill out?
Sorry to be blunt, but I think that the best explanation is that the world is not going to chill out. There's too much fighting over resources and historical animosity be between various groups.
I was feeling increasingly stressed during 2008, with the economy showing signs of big trouble and all the animosity between Republicans and Democrats, was magnified by the presidential election. Plus, I was debating these things with people on digg.com. I was too stressed, so I backed off digg and the news (especially politics) to chill out myself.
I know that that's a head-in-the-sand approach, but I did not know of a better alternative and it has been working. I couldn't make enough of a change myself to fix it so I wouldn't have to withdraw some. I still watch the prime-time news most days, but I no longer watch the politically oriented shows where one or more representatives from the right and the left are bickering and ripping into each other.
> I always think 'if these guys know so much why are there So many problems in The World?'.
They would say "Because the other guys are preventing us from fixing the problems!" They always have that handy.
Yet, when (at least at the national level), when one side has the White House and both chambers, it's never exactly nirvana. They just do the crap they wanted to do before but were thwarted. Eg, the flurry of executive orders at the end of a POTUS administration.
